  • How are the sinuses? Report to Cap!

    Comment

    • The sinuses are better!

The anitbiotics are still ripping my stomach apart, but they are def working.

Hoping I can talk mr.o into going this Friday, but it's going to mean a struggle. He's going to want to see The Grand Budapest Hotel first instead.

      • I have this fun new thing where if I hit the wrong button it takes me back two pages and loses the post I was working on. Grrr!

I liked The Grand Budapest but didn't love it. I sort of am surprised at how well reviewed it is. I usually love his movies and this one I felt was beautiful and amusing but lacked the heart of some of his other movies. I'd put it down with Darjeeling Limited (which is the only other movie of his that I didn't love).
Itís just really honestly so tiring and emotionally draining to have to get upset over reality constantly.

        • CAPTAIN'S ORDERS!!!!

(em must hate this thread whenever Marvel movies come out.)

Saw it last night and was in a state of squee the rest of the evening. Three things were AMAZING:

          1) no damsels in distress at all! Three women with decent parts (for a superhero movie) and all three got to be kickass.

          2) Falcon. Everything about Falcon! Everything about Falcon/Cap and their new bromance!

          3) it was a legitimate game changer, not just 'let's defeat this bad guy/invasion/etc before everything returns to stasis.'

          • Divergent was better than expected, but I haven't read the books. Shailene was great.

            • Finally saw Captain America 2! I don't know if it's because I'm ovulating but my uterus was like this for the whole movie:

I want to climb Chris Pine. Also, I never thought Sebastian Stan was off the charts--not hating, just never FELT IT until his long hair in this movie. And I never dig long hair. I am confused about it. But I for sure didn't know WTF was going on in this movie minus the sexy times tension between Capt' A and Natasha.

              • I don't blame you for wanting to climb Chris Pine, because duh . . . but I think you mean Chris Evans.

But hey, basically, any of the ultra buff Chris's (Pine, Evans, Hemsworth) could play each other's roles if they had to, so . . .

I was feeling that, too big time. Of course, Black Widow also had crazy tension with Tony, and we know they ain't splitting up him and Pepper.

Are you familiar with the comics at all?

Romanov isn't going to become Cap's love interest, just his friend. It's Sharon Carter you should pay attention to (Emily Van Camp). In the comics, she was Peggy (his gf from WWII)'s niece, and they are on again/off again throughout most of the comic book storylines. So it was nice that they established her character in this movie, and gave us an idea of how kickass she can be -- and also that Cap was attracted to her when he thought she was just a neighbor.

In some comic book storylines, Hawkeye and Romanoff do end up in love. I don't know if they will go that way in the movie-verse or not.

I think we need an Avengers-verse thread! I will start one!

                • We finally went to see Godzilla last night and it was kinda disappointing. I think I had really high expectations and the movie just didn't fulfill them. I mean, I LOVE Lizzy Olsen and she was good in this, but something about the story really fell flat for me. Oddly, I think it was Aaron Taylor Johnson's acting. He's so hawt, but he was kinda bad, maybe average in this. Meh. We should have gone to see Maleficent.

                  • I liked it but he was the Weakest Link FOR SURE. He was very wooden and not particularly charismatic.

                    • I laughed so very hard at Neighbors yesterday, mostly because of Rose Byrne. Immature-but-trying-to-grow-up moms (who aren't terrible reality show celebs) aren't common to see, and I LOVELOVELOVED when her character tells Seth Rogen's character she's not suddenly going to be the nagging, responsible wife with the voice of reason whenever he does stupid shit just because they have a baby now (his response: "Haven't you ever seen a Kevin James movie? We can't both be Kevin James!" . Mr. Laa and I aren't even close to getting the puppy we've been thinking about, but the push and pull of wanting to take shots like a 20-year-old and reveling adult things like nice hand soap and getting a full night's sleep is RIGHT where we're at rn.

                      • I just saw the new Transformers movie and my faith in humanity is gone. GONE, I SAY. Because I know it's making bank and it is so fucking terrible I can't even begin to formulate a coherent criticism. Like, what the actual fuck? People pay money for this shit. Everything about it was stupid. And it was a million years long. Every time I thought it was going to end, there was another hour. Ugh.

                        • Guardians was SUPER fun. More after I nerd out.

                          Transformers was ass.

                          • Guardians was super fun, Laa! Totally the best of Marvel's ability to do light and silly and fun but also find some nice character moments. It wasn't like the greatest thing evah but it was great fun all the same.

The 3-D was weaksauce, tho. And I was deeply confused by no kiss between Pratt & Saldana because he is the FIRST leading man she actually has chemistry with. They were PRETTY together and had some nice tension. I was irritated by the lack of smooching.

                            • My favorite snarky technicolor space opera with a sentient tree monster! But I chalked up the non-kiss to build-up for the next movie.

Do you get how my crush on Pratt grew three sizes that day!?

ETA: I'm working on my own clay miniature of Baby Groot, like everyone on the internet.
