Frodo was a whiney weakass bitch and Sam was *so* the unsung hero!
I think most people feel that way about Sam. I know I do and not just because Mikey's playing him. If it's any consolation, in the book he and the other two non-Frodo hobbits were the big celebs when they got home. Frodo kind of faded into the background until he left and Sam ended up being Mayor of the Shire six times or something.

the elf -- who I thought was going to die, bdw
That line Hugo Weaving said to Viggo about how she was dying and her fate was tied to the ring was bullshit. Yes, she had to choose mortality before the task was finished, but she wouldn't have dropped dead on the spot if they failed. She couldn't drop dead. That whole bit in The Two Towers where she's standing at Aragorn's tomb and then wandering the forest for thousands of years was basically her inevitable future.

And dude, if you think that was long, wait until someone makes you sit through the extended-by-fifty-minutes cut. The blonde chick'll get her storyline wrapped up there.

Blond chick's story is the Best One!

Sam is totally the true hero of the story.

Ok, I am officially the last person on the planet to see this movie. We watched it on PPV last night, and I'm thankful I had Mr. Snick to translate for me (he saw it in the theater eons ago). Let's just say that my character name list is remarkably similar to Mr. D's.

But all that being said, once I got into it I really liked it a lot. The first one is still my favorite, but I must admit to getting all misty with all the friendship stuff during the multiple endings.

I also must share vanessa's love for Eowyn. She honestly didn't bug me at all. The same can't be said for Frodo. He's a whiny little bastard and I was also hoping (like D and neo) that Sam would just push his ring-wcarrying ass into the volcano already.

The other advantage to watching it with Mr. Snick- he let me know when to take bathroom breaks (a must for an 8 months pregnant woman).

The RotK folks are out at Comic-Con and they had some of the packaging for the EE DVD, which you can see here. I'm not quite sure what I'd do with a little Minas Tirith, and I wish they had done that with Meduseld for TTT. Also, a LJ user who attended a panel about this has EE spoilers here - including the fact that the EE will be 50 minutes longer! And includes the Houses of Healing scenes! Hurray!

The longer 6-minute trailer is out today. There's a cute hobbit RLTL moment, for those of you who like such things.

I've been reading some spoiler-y bits about the EE and I think you're gonna be pissed, v. Apparently only two short Eowyn/Faramir scenes have been added, there's no declaration of love, no kiss and no wedding. From what I've read, the extended footage is mostly battle scene extensions, Aragorn and Hobbit stuff. Also, pissing me off immensely, there is no Epilogue. People are already speccing that Peter Jackson's saving stuff for the Super! Fancy! Expensive! Trilogy Release that's rumored to be forthcoming (in 2007 or thereabouts) because apparently he wants to supplant George Lucas as the Most Reviled SciFi Director evah.

                            *shakes fist*

I know they filmed the wedding! Oh well, it would never have been as good as the book, anyway. And I do like the short bits I've seen pictures of already - the snuggling and the hand-holding

I am already prepared to fork over more money to get the SuperTrilogy.

Peter Jackson won't be making The Hobbit. I can't decide if I care. I've never read it and what I've seen of the cartoon I hated, but I figured PJ would've made it interesting enough. In someone else's hands, I think it'll just be weird.
