  • Yeah, but you have a job and I don't. Makes a difference, yo!

That WSJ article was great. They interviewed a girl I used to work with who is now a bestselling author. I didn't even know she wrote fanfic as well. Good for her. I'm pleased as punch that she's an actual author, but keeps it real in fandom. She's a sweetheart IRL, too.

    Oh, that's living the dream.

    • In completely different news, ANGST just went down on the French Riviera.

JoMo and Trevino were in Monte Carlo for the TV Festival, right? Just a few days ago?

Well, so was Emily Van Camp and her boy toy, Josh Bowman. At the EXACT same time. Well, duh, because they were in town for the same festival.

      PDA pics below:

You know how I feel about this pairing.

You can see poor JoMo bravely smiling through his pain. *sniff* http://thepiercefire.tumblr.com/post/25160210651

He got to hang with Abby in Monte Carlo, too (Persia White), who he just recently directed in a short film. So now, of course, people are freaking out that JoMo and PersWhi (is that a thing? I'm deciding that it's a thing) are actually dating now. Yeah, there is zero proof of that, but if they are? Get it, boy. She's pretty fine. I may not like Abby as a character, but Persia is gorgeous.

He was also picced with Victoria (Madeleine Stowe). Awkward. http://couldthisbetrue.tumblr.com/po...monte-carlo-tv

And these pics show that JoMo/EVC/Josh B. must have been in the same space at the same time. http://yosoymary.tumblr.com/post/251...g-ceremony-jun

      • I don't really have anything TVD related to say, but MAN, EVC's bod is the HOTNESS. She's gonna be my post-delivery thinspiration.

        • Great WSJ article, but! No mention of PP? Is it because our porny digital enclave had a sense of humor about itself?

Mr. Card, author of the best-selling "Ender's Game" series, is planning to host a contest for "Ender's Game" fan fiction this fall. Fans will be able to submit their work to his Web site. The winning stories will be published as an anthology that will become part of the official "canon" of the "Ender's Game" series.
Wow. That's every daisychainer denialfuturefic author's DREAM.

Ophy, I think there are definitely shortcuts to filing serial numbers off a very canon fic. Didn't you say you read a novel that was blatantly VM fic and you loved it because of that? I'm so curious as to who oversees that stage of edits/rewrites in the writing world.

          • Yes, I did love that fic-disguised-as-a-book, good point. I'd totes forgotten about that. (I think it was called 'So Over You', and she didn't even have all the names changed exactly right.)

But in general, I think people who write something and post it for folks to read for free are kind of assholes for pulling it down and then publishing it for money. Just sayin', free should be free and stay that way.

            • First chap of the new fic is up! http://www.fanfiction.net/u/4031779/sopheliasophy

The first chap is short, but I did write 6k words in the past 24 hrs. Despite diaper changes, and a zillion loads of dishes, and feeding children, etc. Which has got me thinking that maybe I *will* do something original and self-pubbed (non-vampire related) that I can hawk on Amazon after I finish this fic. If I can spend thousands of words on somebody's else's universe, *surely* I can do the same on my own, right?

              MNN Qwa-Lit-Tee Publishing, bitches!

Anyway, not going to spam this thread with updates on this new fic. Y'all know where to find it if you are interested. Not sure how fast it will go up, but I super duper want it totally done before the Olympics start up and totally kill my productivity.

                yes.
Itís just really honestly so tiring and emotionally draining to have to get upset over reality constantly.

                • Yes yes yesyesyesyes.

Dude, with the quality of your writing + your rate of production?! You should be pubbin'.

                  • SERIOUSLY. It's ALL about being able to pump out quality. If you can write well but only put out a book a year? You should have been pubbing the ol' fashioned way!

Have I told you how obsessed I am with self-pubbing authors? SO obsessed.

Articles open in my browser right now despite being slammed:
Jessica Park talks about how Amazon transformed her life.
How My Book Became a Self-Published Best Seller

That doesn't count the ones I already read today. Heh.

                    • Okay, fine. After this fic, and after the Olympics, I'll give it a real shot.

Beeksus, if this is a spectacular disaster, it's all your fault. It won't be because I can't write my own shit worth a damn, of course not.

Fifteen years ago, I wrote a 300 page romance novel in two months, and it SUCKED. Thank Beek it is forever lost to history on a floppy disk somewhere. If we had had cloud computing back then, it would have haunted me for eternity.

ETA I'm getting nervous because the new chap has been up for over an hour and only has one review, despite having been read by 80 people. I don't know if I can emotionally handle having something up at Amazon for REAL people to write reviews on, on a site that actually matters. Freaks me out.

                        • I AM SO OBSESSED AS WELL. You know how rare and lovely it is to find coherent, proofread, emotionally satisfying stuff from a self-pubbed author! You can be a unicorn, O.

                          Pen names!

                          • In the chapter I posted last night, I did that thing to Damon that I've been wanting to do.

Here comes GhostDamon! I was actually giddy about it.

Doesn't everyone have their pen name picked out since they were a little girl? I have a list of ten. Although I do love that the site chose 'Merlin Key' for me. Trying to imagine how pretentious you would have to be to name yourself 'Merlin'. Or how stupid you feel at book signings.

Nina and Ian went on a cuitie pie cute date last night at the Santa Monica pier. Nobody was believing the twitter sightings until Ian confirmed it. Picturing Nina and Ian on the ferris wheel and I think I wanna die from cute overload. Damn their cuteness.

Stressed? Santa Monica pier, sunset- ferris wheel, roller coaster. Done. You're smiling. Home, sleep- you're set to go
Also the tabs says he wants to propose, but Nina is asking him to wait five years. Um, girl . . . he's getting old. RING.WEDDING.BABIES.

                            Get on that NOW.

Very hard to predict how much hotness Ian can still muster in five years, and you want your groom to still be hot for the pics. Duh.

You can see how good I would be at giving young girls advice on their life.

He has to leave either today or tomorrow for the Birmingham con. I think that's the last overseas con for awhile.
TVD production are gearing up to be back in ATL next week, but I don't think the cast has to be there that early.

Twice today I happened to look at the clock when it was 11:11. Can't tell you who --- I mean what I wished for. ;-)
Please wish for hot makeouts with ernesto. You need it. Maybe if you get laid, you'll let Elena get laid again, too. (Yeah, I'm equally skilled at bad advice for ladies my own age).
