Oh, dude. That's pretty funny. I don't even remember thinking that way about Andie's death at all. Funny how retrospect changes everything!

Well, actually, it's funny how writing fic changes everything. I had this whole different idea of Damon/Andie when I wrote tempests, and that has now become my head canon.

I think your fic Damon and Elena are the ones that you think you're seeing on screen.

But yeah . . . they had their moments. One minute, it did seem obvious that at some point Damon might snap and kill her, and at other points (like when she was telling to go get his own fucking champagne, and then chastised him for dripping all over the floor) they were almost a real couple. Charade it might have been, but you could tell he felt something for her when she was lying there dead on the floor. Even if it was only the guilt that she died because of him.

Also, I'm of two minds about whether or not he ever compelled her 'love'. He compelled her to feel safe with him, to not be afraid of him, to let him feed on her . . . and to not reveal any of his secrets. But that's not to say he compelled her affection. She liked him before he compelled her (she seemed to like him a lot), and when she said 'because you need to know that somebody cares about you, Damon', it did seem like that was really her talking. But I don't know. It's obviously complicated. How could she have real affection for him, if the majority of the time she was not in control of her own mind/body?

He compelled her to fall for him in one of the first episodes she appeared in, so absolutely nothing was real. If he hadn't compelled her maybe she would have fallen for him anyway, but as written he forced her to feel that way.

What I always wondered was why Elena let that go on so long without trying to put an end to it. Not our of jealousy, but for decency's sake. In all other ways, she was determined to act as Damon's conscience and make him be a better man, but she lets him keep a compelled girlfriend? How did she justify that?

She had more pressing concerns I guess.

Well, she wasn't compelled when she first got into the bathtub with him. She seemed pretty into him already. But yes, I know what you are saying.

It's possible? But if it enriches my viewing experience, then I have no complaints with that.

I always wondered if maybe Elena let Damon 'keep' Andie because in some ways it rendered him 'safe'. He purposely decided to compel Andie so it would distract him 'from going after what I really want' as he told Stefan. Not admirable -vampire morality clause! - but I do wonder if Elena had a sense of that as well, and so she let it slide. Seems like she needed Andie as a buffer just like Damon did.

Good job, actually. So . . . wondering if she's not filming currently. Dare we hope Elena has already eaten April by 4.11? I like April, but I am dying for Elena to eat somebody meaningful.

Also, I had Elena eat a girl that she used to babysit in tempests, so maybe I'm hoping for a little shout out. I already got the motorcycle (maybe that doesn't count) *and* they destroyed a wing of the hospital!

Posted half an hour ago, and he hasn't clarified yet. I can't even deal with the fact that Kol is tweeting emo poetry on twitter for a blue eyed girl. You know who has blue eyes? Grace Phipps. And they would have met last weekend at Eyecon. Just saying.

Speaking of Nate, poor guy got pranked. Soon after he came to the States to try acting, he apparently gave his number to a waitress in LA that he felt like he connected with. She thought his accent was fake (ha!), and so she gave the number to a website that does prank texts.

They strung him along, making him think he was texting this girl, that he seems to have genuinely liked, for quite a while. For over a week. Then the guy pulling the prank decided that Nate was a genuinely nice guy, and not some LA douchebag, so they ended it (had the 'girl' tell him she had a bf) without him even knowing he was being pranked. Awwww. That kinda sucks.

TV Fanatic: Were you and the writers nervous at all about taking that step of Elena becoming a vampire?
Julie Plec: We were nervous in that it was a choice that takes her in a very clear direction, and if the audience unilaterally decided it didn’t like that direction and rejected it, we were pretty hosed. I think we had ‘they did it in the books’ excuse on our side, that gave us a little bit of confidence and, realistically, in the way that Twilight is always sort of its own little focus group of what works and what doesn’t.

TVF: On "The Rager," we witnessed Stefan’s concern about his own past as a ripper and keeping himself grounded. How will that manifest in the coming episodes?
JP: What it’s done is we’re seeing the nuclear fallout of this big move. Elena’s a vampire and so while we could very easily make the transition simple for her, instead we wanted to make the transition as complicated and as fraught as possible. Though we knew we wanted Stefan to be her hero, to really reaffirm all the ways and all the reasons why she chose him at the end of last year... we also didn’t want it to come without its own difficulties and consequences for him, where he may not be able to be a true hero to her, because he, himself, is plagued by infinitely deeper problems that come with being a functional vampire.

We wanted to let Damon have the point of view, which, you know, for three seasons we all sort of rolled our eyes and clucked our tongues and shook our heads at Damon’s logic and yet finally have him be the guy that’s like, ‘hey, I’m right, you all know I’m right. You all are living in fantasyland’ and start understanding that Damon’s reality is really the most rational reality at this point.

TVF: And that love triangle that’s still alive, but are there some unexpected turns coming up?
JP: This is all I can say without getting myself into terrible amounts of trouble across the board. I think that people watching and paying attention to the seeds we’ve been sowing to probably chart the course of the next big turn that this triangle is going to have.

TVF: Phoebe Tonkin showed up last week as Hayley. How is she going to get in the way of Caroline, Tyler and maybe even Klaus?
JP: Hayley’s presence is going to have a lot of surprises attached to it and why she’s there [and] what her relationship with Tyler is. What she thinks about all of this and ultimately, the part she plays in a bigger game that’s brewing between Tyler and Klaus as we move forward, it’s towards closer to the middle of the season. So, we’ve just scratched the surface with her and there’s a lot of surprises attached to her as we move forward.

TVF: Jeremy seems to be on a nice journey now that he’s possibly a hunter. What’s coming up for him?
JP: Big, big, big stuff is afoot for our young Jeremy Gilbert. This season maybe the biggest storyline he’s ever had and we just introduced the beginning of it with this appearance of the vampire hunter calling Jeremy a "potential." It has miles to go from there.

TVF: I love that Matt’s had a nice piece of things in these first episodes. Is he going to get more involved in things moving forward?
JP: Yes. Matt’s back on, he’s just going to continue to be human and continue to always be there right in the middle of things and now Rebekah, of course, has her sights set on him, which is never going to end well. And he’s determined to add value to our group and to his own life and don’t think we’re going to see Matt getting pushed around much. I think he’s going to be a good friend. He’s going to be a good fighter and he’s going to be a good support system for everybody.

TVF: Klaus is now protecting Connor at least for the moment, so we're guessing that will be important this week, right?
JP: This episode that airs Thursday, Klaus sort of fills in the holes of the story that we don’t know yet. About this tattoo that Jeremy saw, the centuries-long mystery that surrounds it and it’s got some impact and a few... I would say it’s got triple whammies!

TVF: Bonnie wasn’t in this past episode, but are we going to see her soon?
JP: Absolutely. Episode 4 is kind of the beginning of Bonnie’s journey for the season. She meets a new mentor, who’s very intriguing and interesting and there is a handsome professor by the name of Shane, played by David Alpay, who’s terrific. And it’s just the beginning of a really, really tumultuous, dramatic and emotional year where Bonnie is really going to learn a lot about herself and what she’s capable of and a lot of great things for her.

TVF: And her daddy’s coming right?
JP: Her daddy’s coming. We haven’t seen the last of her mama. We’ve got some small romantic roads to travel. We’ve got some great witchcraft stuff that is always lurking. Is she going to tap back into that dark magic or stay on the side of good? There’s all kinds of things coming down the pipeline for her. It’s going to be a good year.

TVF: I’m always up for a Katherine sighting so might we have one in season four? I think she’d love to see where Elena is these days!
JP: All I will say is that we have not seen the last of Lady Katherine.

He says it's his favorite ep of any that he has shot for TVD, and the script is brilliant, and that Rebecca Sonnenshine is his favorite writer (she also wrote the scene from 3.11 where Klaus cures Caroline, which has long been Joe's fave scene).

JoMo seems to get hotter all the time. He's not one I'd say is normally in my wheelhouse (you know, the long line of pasty brunettes with dreamy eyes that started with Davy Jones and has continued on through an endless number of real and TV boyfriends) but! Lately? I just love every scene he is in. He's a breath of fresh air on this show despite being a regular. Heh.

He has a compelling screen presence for sure, but he's a lovable sweetie pie off screen. I super love the fact that they can't kill him off without killing all of them. So smart.

So those of us who have been watching this season with a 'Damon is always right, why can't they all just shut up and listen to him' haven't been wrong. According to Julie.

I never doubted that it's what the writers wanted to show. My issue is with how successful they have been in doing so.

I have high hopes for ep 4. I decided yesterday that one of my main issues about episode 3 was that it didn't look or feel like The Vampire Diaries. I've been watching a lot of older episodes recently.

Around any other group of folks I would nevah admit this but season three of Dawson's Creek is my penultimate season of any series. I know other shows are better in lots of ways--season two of Buffy is amazing--but if you said I could take only one season of one TV series to a desert island? It would have to end with True Love.

I really feel like we should do a group rewatch of season 3 (we can skip eps 5, 10, 11)

My avatar has just reminded me of one of my very favourite ever DC scenes - at the Flash Wedding when Joey tells Pacey she can't choose then flarey nostrils comes out and acts assy an Joey walks away and Pacey calls after her (with a heartbreaking catch in his voice - Josh so sold that ship) "Jo - I don't even get a goodbye?" OMB I LOVED PACEY AND JOEY.

Firefly, maybe? Or Wonderfalls? S1 of VMars? I don't really know. But S3 of DC might make my top five. Perhaps. Top ten? Hmmmmm.

I mean, for every flawless PJ scene, you had three crappy scenes with other people. Like the stupidity of AJ, or that annoying child Pacey had to mentor.

ME TOO! I mean, obviously, plenty of other shows are better written, but you nevah forget the show that led you to the crazy. I even left episode 7 of S3 on the rewatch list (that's Witch Island) because of the P/Jo hip bump in one of the opening scenes. *sigh*
