started a topic What are you watching?

    What are you watching?

Don't we need a generic television thread? Yeah, I thought so.

So, my latest excitement is that my cable company just gave us some new channels!

MTV2 -- I've been dying for this one for YEARS now. YAY.

MTV Hits -- The description says it caters to the "younger" MTV demographic. As far as I can tell, the only difference between this and regular MTV is that it actually plays videos. Basically it's Beyonce, Pink, and Hilary Duff. Oh joy.

VH1 Mega Hits -- This says it plays hits from the 90s and today. I haven't really watched it, so I can't say what they actually show or what makes it different from regular ol' VH1.

But the big excitement is VH1 Classic -- OMB! I it. Last night, in one half-hour period I saw the Go-Gos (now I'm blanking on the song, but it wasn't one of their bigger hits -- it's the video where they're dressed up as a boy band playing at a dance in the 50s/60s, and Rob Lowe is in it), Rick Springfield (again, not one of his typical bigger hits -- it was "Don't Talk to Strangers" -- I forgot how great that video was, hee!), Roxy Music (it was "Avalon," but still), the Kinks, and Lou Reed. I feel that my ass will be planted on the couch watching that channel for an inordinate amount of time.

I haven't really checked them out much, but we also got The DIY Network and the Style Network.

There was one funie show on the Style Network called "Style Court". It had me rolling. Basically it's like "The People's Court" (and it even has Doug Llewelyn!) except that people bring on friends and family members who have bad style. And then the judge -- along with a "celebrity" jury (the ep I watched featured Dr. Joyce Brothers, Brandi Roderick (who I only knew from "The Surreal Life"), and Bobby Trendy (who I only knew from "The Anna Nicole Show") -- sets down the verdict of whether they've committed fashion violations (believe me, they all have). Then they get a makeover. OMB, the ep I watched had this lady who painted on these scary, scary eyebrows. They were literally half and inch thick, and they were at this crazy dramatic angle. Then she had these kerrazy eyelashes. And she was so freaky delusional. The Judge is all, "Have you EVER seen anyone who wasn't IN A MOVIE who had your kind of look?" And she's like, "Yes, Cher." He's all, "BESIDES FRIGGIN" SCARY CHER!" (I'm paraphrasing, hee.) She really, truly didn't seem to understand how kerrazy she looked. I didn't stick around to see the makeover (because I was excitedly flipping around with all my other new channels, hee!), but I will definitely be back for that show.

Oh and OOH! There's also now Nicktoons, the all-cartoon Nickelodeon channel, which is very exciting, as they play old "Ren & Stimpy" and "Pinky and the Brain" eps. Whee!

I have been avoiding Outlander because Ron Moore pissed me off so much in BSG , but Scottish accents are a thing so maybe I should try it.

I have managed to avoid Outlander until now, but Netflix just put up the first 2 seasons and I made the mistake of starting it. Dirty hot boys are not usually my thing, but Sam Heughan is also Scottish with a very Scottishy accent which I feel is UNFAIR when it is combined with that earnest face. I've never read these books and don't plan to, but Starz also has a special where it's 5 bucks for the next 3 months or something, so OBVS I'm gonna watch the other 2 seasons now. One thing that keeps throwing me off is that Cat Balfe looks almost exactly like Anna Torv and I keep having to remind myself that it's not a Fringe alternate universe.

I loved Dead to Me! Some of the twists were waay over the top but whatever. Applegate shines in this. Cardelini has the more thankless role I think. The neighbor's interests at the end were lol and I always enjoy mother in laws from hell.

Ooh, I love Applegate! Will have to try.

If Single Parents doesnít get renewed, Iím going to watch the first season over and over again as self-care like a tremendous weirdo.

I'm 3 episodes into Dead to Me and really enjoy it so far. Applegate is perfectly cast as a widow who is barely holding it together and who is so full of rage that you expect her to go on her own killing spree at any second. And I usually don't enjoy Cardellini that much in anything, but she's good in this. The show has a Desperate Housewives feel and has similar twists and surprises, but since it's bingeable and has a way shorter season, it feels like the story is tighter and better.

I finished S2 of Imposters and I still think it's fun. My main problem with it is that the lead girl isn't a very good actress and everyone else around her is significantly better. She's supposed to be a Mary Sue since her whole thing is that she's irresistible and gets everyone to fall in love with her in order to pull off her cons, but she's kind of a simpering nothing with a whiny voice and no ability to emote. And she doesn't have great chemistry with anyone because she's so flat. The three lovers that she's duped actually have way better chemistry with each other and the show is a lot more fun when the focus is on them rather on her. The set up for S3 is good, but I don't know if anyone is going to pick it up. It got cancelled by Bravo, but I'm hoping it comes back somehow.

Like Vanessa, I love the girls but Martin Sheen as Robert is particularly unbelievable to me, I find Iím always waiting for his scenes to be over and to get back to the women.

I love Grace and Frankie with the fluffiest of hearts and while I am absolutely in it for Jane and Lily, the husbands are adorable to me too. And if you have no other takers on that LaJoya beach life, hit me up in like 20 years when I'm done raising these kids and I will gladly join you! G&F and The Good Place are the 2 shows I wish would film nonstop until the end of time.

I binged all of Grace and Frankie and now I am trying to talk my neighbor into buying a beach house in California. She is resisting. Love the girls but Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston pretending to be gay is so very bad.

Now I am hooked on Good Girls, so I feel like I am mostly interested in things where the female relationships are the point of the show.

Russian Doll was perfect in every way. I binged it during a snowstorm and I think I got up off the couch like three times during the whole thing.

I feel like Abducted in Plain Sight was a bad documentary about an insane story? Like a better documentarian could have taken you on a journey and this one just wanted to take you on a ride.

IT WAS A RIDE. But I spent every third minute leaning in and I even had to rewind a couple of times because they breeze past the CRAZIEST THING YOU HAVE EVER HEARD and then don't really revisit it or expand upon it? LOL. It's NUTS. I kinda want to watch it again tho.

I finally got around to watching Abducted In Plain Sight and I was horrified by Jan's parents. The handy in the car with her dad and her abductor was SO. WTF and then they just moved on to explaining other shit and I was still like, "EXCUUUUUUSE ME!!???" And every time her mom talked about her affair with the dude, she got this dreamy look on her face like she'd still be down for that d today. When she expressed her surprise about the second abduction, my face must have been a weird combo of ????!!!!!!? Her parents were the creepiest combo of 70s swingers who were secretly freaky af and deeply naive church folk who only use the medical terms for people's private parts.
