Itís just really honestly so tiring and emotionally draining to have to get upset over reality constantly.

                    • So I am trying intermittent fasting. It's the first time I've ever been on any sort of diet, if you can really call this that. I'm doing the 16/8 method where I have 8 hours during the day when I can eat. That's the goal anyway. Some days I'm great at it and can go 19, 20, 21 hours because I'm busy, but sometimes I only make it to 15 or 15.5 hours. I've been at it for about 2.5 weeks now and it's getting easier. I try to eat between 10:30 - 6:30 which works best for our family and the evenings are super easy. I haven't been snacking while watching TV which I largely did without noticing before. My tough time is in the morning. I want coffee really bad and having to wait sometimes feels EXCRUCIATING, but if I can make myself busy, usually those 3 or so hours pass by pretty quickly. There are some days when I'm at my desk at 9:30 and I'm basically counting down the minutes.

                      Benefits I've noticed so far:
I have more energy. I usually hit a wall around 2-2:30 where I would punch a baby if it meant I could take a 2 hour nap right after. I haven't experienced that same sluggishness in the past couple of weeks. And I haven't been getting more sleep so I know it's not that.

I never crave sugary things anymore. We had leftover cake in the office last week and were encouraged to finish it up, but I just didn't want any. In the past, I'd very likely have eaten it even though I wasn't hungry, but just because it was there and I was bored. But it took like no will power to turn it down last week. It legit was not even hard to say nah.

I'm drinking way more water which in turn is giving me crazy good skin. I probs drink 3 bottles of water in the morning before I'm allowed to eat because it makes me full and less focused on my next meal.

                      BUT!
I don't know if this is a very effective weight loss method tbh. I don't really have any (much?) weight to lose and I'm happy with my body in general. I'm still running and doing TRX regularly and then 2 kids running around your house every day makes your heart rate go up anyway so I consider that another form of cardio. Since you do end up eating fewer calories if you're not craving sugar and then just eating normal sized meals within a shorter time frame, I would think weight loss would eventually be another benefit, but I'm staying right about where I always am and my clothes don't feel different.

My goal was to try this for a few months and see if I could legit change my eating habits. Plus, I liked the idea that I'm turning my cells into world champion disease fighters. I'm finding it to be pretty easy to maintain so far (with the exception of mornings) and I feel like the benefits are pretty great. We'll see where I am with it all in a couple of months.

                      • Dude, I am FASCINATED by this. I've been interested in intermittent fasting, but I'm not sure if I can make it work with my fam's sched. This is making me want to give it a go, though.

                        • I'm the kind of person that it would make me want to eat just during the hours I'm not supposed to.

I definitely have to think about the timing of my meals more and it forces me to think about myself and not just the kids. We're a pretty chill family when it comes to schedules. Before the fasting, Mr. Issie and I would often wait to eat until after we'd fed the kids and put them to bed. So sometimes, that meant we didn't eat until after 8 and then I would've been snacking on random stuff up until that time. But ever since I started the fasting schedule, I've had to plan more carefully in the afternoon. I eat with the kids and if Mr. Issie's home, he'll eat with us so everybody's done by 630. It actually frees up our night in a nice way. It has made me switch my exercise schedule so that I run later in the evening, but that's been ok.

I have extended my eating window on both Fridays since I started. I still start eating around 1030, but if we go out to eat that night, I might not finish until 830ish. But then I just don't eat breakfast on Sat so that I still have a 16 hour fast. And since everybody in my house likes to sleep, we all sleep in until 9ish on the weekends anyway.

                            • There are a TON of benefits to intermittent fasting, especially since Americans overfeed themselves like crazy. Heh.

Issie, you can totally have coffee! Just don't put sugar in it. I know tons of people in weight loss and IF groups who don't eat anything until 10:30 but have coffee. Most of them have some variation on bulletproof coffee with fat in it. The fat and caffeine together is supposed to give you a boost.

Basically everybody should give up on "meal times" since so many people consume too many calories and aren't even hungry when they do eat. They just eat because "it's time to eat!"
Itís just really honestly so tiring and emotionally draining to have to get upset over reality constantly.

So, I've watched and read some conflicting opinions about this. The IF fascists believe that anything other than water breaks the fast, including coffee. They also advise against taking your daily vitamins and supplements while on your fasting period since your liver has to metabolize them. Since I wanted to be super strict with myself at the beginning, I figured I would try the fascist method. Honestly, it's ok. I might try this celery juice trend over the weekend and see if I can move away from coffee altogether.

They just eat because "it's time to eat!"
So, this is actually how I feel about dinner while on IF. I'm NEVER hungry at 6 because I usually eat around 3, but I know that if I don't eat, I will pass out from hunger and sadness and hypoglycemia at 10 after my workout. Dinner on a pretty full stomach at 6 helps me control my choices and then gives me good fuel for my run later on.
