So, just to stop the confusion in the books thread? I am creating a writing thread. For ophy, presumably. Hee!

But I downloaded Scrivener and I'm watching the vid and it's really very powerful! If you register for nano and download a test of Scrivener you'll get 20 or 50% off (if you make your word count for nano) the cost of the full program. Just for anyone nerdy enough to bother.
Itís just really honestly so tiring and emotionally draining to have to get upset over reality constantly.

I made the word count for Day Two! Failure is my only option but still!

Oh, it's a nonsense romance novel that I thought was going to be an alt-u about Dan and Blair but by page 5 it wasn't about them at all so no wonder nobody likes alt-u! Ha!

It's heavily influenced by all my shitty teen melodrama watching. It's a dash of original 90210 (think of when Kelly and Dylan hooked up behind Brenda's back), a shake of Dawson's (with a class struggle and a triangle), a peppering of Gossip Girl (guest appearance by Serena VanDerWoodsen). It's pretty young people kissing and feeling guilty about it. So, it's amazing, basically. Bwah! And totally stupid. But enjoyable to think about.

Oh, and just so you all do not think I'm delusional: This is totally just for me, for fun. Because I need to get in the habit of writing again. I edit 99% of the time and I miss writing for work (though not the boring corporate kind of writing I spent most of my professional life writing).

If you can pull all the most enjoyable things out of your vast store of teen romance, then YES. It will be AMAZING.

                  Ugh.

                  http://blog.zap2it.com/pop2it/2012/1...s-of-grey.html

After the success of E.L. James' "Fifty Shades of Grey" series, which was originally conceived and posted as "Twilight" fan fiction about Edward and Bella, it's no surprise that publishers are newly interested in tapping that particular market.

One of the most popular fan fiction works in the early days of the "Twilight" fandom was "The Office" -- a story that reimagined Edward and Bella as an executive and his ambitious intern. Naturally, steamy sex ensued. Now, THR reports that "The Office" has been reworked and will be published with the title "Beautiful Bastard."

The original fan fiction, written by Christina Hobbs, a junior high counselor, was downloaded over 2 million times before being taken off the internet in 2009, when she decided to look for a book deal. She joined forces with Lauren Billings and together, under the pen name Christina Lauren, they reworked the story significantly. The first book will be published on Feb. 12, 2013. A sequel, "Beautiful Stranger," will follow on May 28, 2013.
Another piece of utter crappy porn gets a book deal.

There's not going to be any book deals left before I finish mine!

I didn't know you were writing crappy porn?

I'm seriously considering just writing a ton of crappy porn short stories and selling them for 99 cents.

I am barely scraping by on nanowrimo now! I have to write 1100 words today to catch up. Grrr.

                      Ha! I'm not. Was kidding.

Well, it's been an unusual couple of weeks. Giving myself and everyone else a pass for awhile.

A junior high counselor? Is it normal to out her non-pen-name in a press release? I hope that book makes her enough to quit because, hm, awk.

If I don't get to read any teenly romantic fruits of your NaNo labors, I'm gonna be upset, yo!

Is it weird that I credit Scrivener with keeping me on target with my word count for Nanowrimo? Even though I'm behind on everything else in my life? Heh.

But the NaNo edition of Scrivener came with a template page that you duplicate and it has your word target in it already and you just write until the button at the bottom turns green. Then I usually push myself to write a few more paragraphs to ensure I'm ahead of the overall word count so if I have an unexpected event shuffle my dad I won't throw in the towel because I'll only have to write 500 words on the "bad" day.

I mean, so far Dan and Blair (I'm just calling them that so I have an easy visual reference of what they vaguely look like--they don't really act like Dan and Blair) keep coming up with things for themselves to do, which is surprising to me. Sometimes when I type I'm just as surprised as they are at what is unfolding. It's such an adventure we're taking together! They spend a lot of time with longing looks and pretending they're just friends while having lots of feelings beneath the surface while Serena (don't ask) is spending the summer abroad (I was tempted to name her Brenda for now, for kicks, but whatever).

Have I mentioned that this is ludicrous and sort of pathetic? I don't care. It's like a marathon. All that matters is that you finish it.

It doesn't sound pathetic to me at all! And if it helps you work through your Dair grief, all the better. heh.

Glad you are loving Scrivener. It makes MY LIFE.

Speaking of writerly things, isadora! How far did you get with my den of thieves? I'm just starting to sort of/kind of feel a little less sick, but I don't want to do any more work on the book until you tell me if it's worth doing/I have to change everything/it sucks ass so far.

I'm not sure what page I'm on but you should totally keep working on it. I really am just compiling some notes to help flesh out the beginning right now. I have to go to the paint store with my super coupon, do a smidge more work on my nano, and actual (!) work but I plan on plowing through most of the rest of it today (assuming it all goes quickly for me).
