Yeah, it just depends on if you feel like falling in love in chronological order or slightly jumbly.

Yeah, second all that Breezy said.
Also, if you want to breeze through Fan Girl you can literally just skip all her bullshit fanfiction. UNLESS you want to learn about this Harry Potter/Draco world b/c Rainbow Rowell's next book is Carry On (the book that Cath writes all her fanfic about in Fan Girl).
But the only Rowell book you really need is Eleanor and Park. The others are enjoyable but mostly forgettable. It’s just really honestly so tiring and emotionally draining to have to get upset over reality constantly.

Speaking of Twilight, E.L. James is smart. She's stealing from Stephenie Meyer AGAIN by releasing "Grey" -- 50 Shades told from Christian's POV. As you may or may not recall, SMeyer write a chunk of Twilight from Edward's POV and was going to finish it but the manuscript was stolen by crazy fan girls and the first 100 pages were released online. Meyer was so upset that she put up for everyone to download but abandoned the book.
So now if she ever goes back to it? She'll be accused of copying EL James! Ha!It’s just really honestly so tiring and emotionally draining to have to get upset over reality constantly.

James originally wrote that EPOV for charity as part of Twific Fandom Gives Back. Presented without comment.
ETA: I read Judy Blume's latest, In the Unlikely Event, after seeing her promote it at the Bay Area Book Festival a couple weeks ago. It was kind of a weird experience because the Judy Blume voice is distinct and felt like coming home but the book itself was fairly mediocre. Engaging but forgettable.
I didn't read Summer Sisters (I did read Wifey a million years ago, ha) but ItUE definitely showed why she was best as a YA author. That's not a dig on YA authors but behavior driven solely by emotion is not as authentic in adult characters.Last edited by emmaleigh; 06-18-2015, 11:00 AM.

Smart Bitches is pulling out the bestest of quotes from Grey and putting them with stock photos of businessmen:

Truly, they are doing the Lord's work.
“Are you gay, Mr. Grey?”
What the hell!
I cannot believe she’s said that out loud! Ironically, the question even my own family will not ask. How dare she! I have a sudden urge to drag her out of her seat, bend her over my knee, spank her, and then fuck her on my desk with her hands tied behind her back. That would answer her ridiculous question.

I don't think I ever read the Edward POV because I was over Master of the Universe by then but honestly? As shitty as that sample prose is in the link above, it reads like a loooooot of other Twi fic. Even the fic that was considered "good." And it's no more disturbing than Midnight Sun where Edward fantasizes about the many, *many* ways he would like to kill Bella.
So Icy is a hosebeast but like, she really did nail Ficward. I just still don't understand how it translated for the masses who seemingly would have had no interest in reading eleventy billion words about AU Edward Cullen the way Twi fans did.
That's good to hear, Laa. I was considering Summer Sisters but now I'm moving it down the list.

I think it has the same crossover appeal. My friends who enjoyed Twilight also enjoy 50 Shades because they think it's fun. If people are anti-Twilight they are also anti-50 Shades. it's kinda funny how specific the crossover appeal is!

I just started Swamplandia! And it's well written but kinda dumb. I have 25 books on my Kindle I haven't read yet so I'm aiming to plow through those.
I am giving up binge watching TV shows this summer so I might read and write more. Because I am a person of letters.
