  • I can't even with this one.

    Depression is such a bitch.

    • I cried a little over this one because I feel like I can track so much of my life through his movies. I loved Mork & Mindy reruns when I was little, was obsessed with DPS in my preteens, and have probs watched both Hook and Good Will Hunting several dozen times each.

Before I read that it was a suicide, I thought it would be OD honestly.

      • Never a fan of his manic comedy but his dramatic stuff was great. Insomnia was so awesome but I can never watch it again because it captured insomnia just too well.

        • All those things. Incredibly sad reading the tweets of celebs mourning their hero, too.

          • I'd heard the real reason The Crazy Ones (which I ended up loving) wasn't renewed was because RW was having severe personal problems and then he checked into rehab so I'd been hopeful he was at least getting help. Should've known the addiction was self-medicating for deeper problems. Very tragic.

Two of his best performances are in The Fisher King and Awakenings, not cited as often as DPS or GWH, but still evidence of what a gifted dramatic actor he could be.

            • I've seen both the Fisher King and Awaking and he was amazing in both, but my favorite will always be Good Morning Vietnam, probably becase it was the first time I saw a movie of his and it was so very good.

              I'm really really sad.

              • Shed some tears when I heard. Loved Him from Mork onwards. So sad.

Years ago I saw an interview where Robin was so manic in his behavior that the interviewer just stopped talking and let Robin ramble on and on. After a few minutes it became hard to watch and, even though he acted amused, I could tell the interviewer just wanted it to be over. I remember at the time thinking how chaotic it must inside Robin's head.

                  • He was bipolar. And I think that was part of his genius, actually. When he was young he was so fast and weird and like nothing you've ever seen but as he got older his manic episodes just seem to be much more obviously manic than actually funny? If that makes sense?
Itís just really honestly so tiring and emotionally draining to have to get upset over reality constantly.

                    • Lauren Bacall has also died. I absolutely loved her (her and Katherine Hepburn were my favourite actresses). She was outspoken and a brilliant actress and I especially loved the films she did with Bogey.

                          • Ugh, when I saw this at the top, I thought it was Joan Rivers. I know she's fairly old, and a fairly divisive person, but I am really sad about her condition. I didn't always love her humor (especially lately), but she really was a fucking trailblazer for female comics and people like Kathy Griffin and Sarah Silverman owe her loads for clearing that path for them.

                            • Seconded!

She's epic no matter what people who think she's just an old nut have to say.

But, that brings up another point, made by genius Tina Fey:
"I've known older men in comedy who can barely feed and clean themselves and they still work. The women, though, they're all 'crazy'… I have a suspicion that the definition of 'crazy' in showbusiness is a woman who keeps talking even after no one wants to fuck her any more."

                              • YES. That is one of my favorite quotes from Bossypants. And I feel that she was totally talking about Carrie Fisher which only makes me doubly support that comment.
