I guess this fits under this thread? Houston and much of Texas is literally a swimming pool right now. Our house hasn't gotten any water, but it's raining again. Some more. Like all day. Mr. Issie took the day off and declared it family pajama day and we all high-fived over it. We might also all murder each other by the end of this weekend if the rain does not let up.

I can't read Facebook right now, because of the number of people talking about how this senseless tragedy can't lead to us taking their guns away. I want to smack them all around.

I am hopeless about guns (and racism and all sorts of entrenched American "values" that baffle me). I knew after Sandy Hook when lil' angelic white children were slaughtered at their own school and the IMMEDIATE response of people on Facebook was not horror but concern about guns that this country was a lost cause where guns are concerned.

I mean, I know mothers of toddlers who immediately posted that THIS WAS NOT THE TIME TO TALK ABOUT GUN VIOLENCE. People are fucking morons. And my racist super christian southern relatives OF COURSE posted that if the crazed killer had just opened his heart to Jesus this wouldn't have happened. Meanwhile, these are the same assholes who race to defend Paula Deen and the Duck Dynasty morons because those people represent their family values.

I've had it with alllll this nonsense is what I'm saying.

It's sad but anytime I'm out in a public place like the mall or a movie theater with my kid, I am always on high alert.

Due to the cray place I work with a super cray population, we're all kind of shocked that no ones come in there with a gun yet. (We get lots of people with knives though, which can thankfully be taken down quickly. We did have a nurse get strangled and another punched in the face.

In conclusion, some poor white people are cray.

I must have been living under a rock, because I didn't even know about this American hostage crisis with ISIS and now I'm despondent over it.

This article is some damn fine journalism. And it puts Obama's announcement of a new gov't policy on how to coordinate hostage response into perspective. The changes come too late for far too many, though.
