      • Watching folks overseas protesting the President of the US is both heartening and mortifying. We fucked this up and we are so sorry.

            • I have the same pit in my stomach two days before the midterms that I had two days before the presidential election I NEED SOMEBODY TO TELL ME IT'S GOING TO BE OKAY.

              • I feel like Trump winning the election is already the WORST thing that could have happened followed by the confirmation of Kavenaugh (this is a stupid spelling of this last name and makes him seem like a Kaylor, but I'm petty). While we've been campaigning for Beto, Mr. Issie and I are doing so with little hope that he'll actually win. My level of dejection can't go any lower, honestly so I'm already prepped for this horrible state of affairs to remain exactly the fucking same for 2 more years.

                • I'm with Issie. The worst is here. We're fucked. I'm still voting but I'm 100 percent despondent about it.

                  • I had a spa day with one of my oldest besties last weekend and we've been ride or dies our whole lives. Like, legit, I think I'd offer to adopt her kid if anything tragic happened to her and her husband. I'm pretty sure my kids think he's their other brother who just lives in another house sometimes anyway, so wevs. ANYWAY, all that to say that she and I can talk about all the things and I was telling her about my volunteer experiences. She then goes to explain that she's still conservative and that even though she doesn't like Trump as a person she's voting for policy over personality and that we need a wall to keep out "people who are tying to hurt us" and that those babies aren't REALLY being ripped apart from their families since the people who are bringing them here aren't their families, they're criminals who stole those kids in order to get in the country. I just stared at her in shock and was like, "Sister, no. I think you're in the white lady sunken place."

They're all around us, basically. And they have a LOT of FEELINGS that are straight CRAY and that's that.

                      • The thing is my friend doesn't even watch the news or really concern herself with politics. I really think she hears her husband and church friends say stuff like this and she just doesn't bother questioning how straight up BANANAS it is because she trusts their judgment and is too busy/lazy/privileged to bother doing any of her own reading. She's smart and an all around kick ass person which makes this even more frustrating.

                        • A neighbor and I went out with another neighbor a few weeks ago, and she told us she is a conservative. We were talking yesterday about how we probably wonít hang out with her very much. I just canít respect them at all.

And then we drove by Tree of Life Synagogue to pay our respects and cried and went home (my neighbor grew up within walking distance and was married there and sheís a mess right now).

There is crime scene tape up all over Mr Rogersí literal neighborhood. I canít even.

                          Everything sucks.

                          • I cried when Hillary lost, but even then I had a shitty feeling similar to Dave Chappelleís SNL election night sketch. Iíve lived my entire life in a state filled with educated, pleasant white people who choose to stay in a red bubble. Seemingly innocuous sleeper racists are everywhere, yo. White nationalists, unfortunately, include polite folk who are used to looking the other way and donít even know they want to stay comfortable at the cost of non-white lives.

In 2016, I knew one of my good friends would vote republican, even if it was Hillary Clinton vs. a box of chicken nuggets. But she wanted to know how I felt about Trump, so I told her I was scared for my family and friends, for everyone who might be in literal danger because true republicans continued to let a monster spout hate in their name. Itís hella hurtful to tell a friend all the ways her vote would hurt you and she decides she cares more about tax cuts and deregulation. Not surprising, but still hurtful.

                            • Well, there were some pretty big wins last night (and some tight losses, but still!). Dems took the House, y'all, and that was HUUUUGE.

Now Auntie Maxine and friends gets to make life SUPER FUCKING ROUGH for the White House, yee haw.

This will effectively kill all of 45's legislative plans!

I'm also so happy about Florida re-enfranchising over a million people. This could honestly change Presidential elections forever. And 100 women in the House! FINALLY. And so many LGBT candidates won! And Kris Kobach, Scott Walker, and Dana Rohrabacher are dead!(career-wise) SO MANY GOOD THINGS.

And in my heavily gerrymandered state, we broke the State House and State Senate's GOP supermajority, so they can't override our Dem govenor's veto anymore and that is also REALLY BIG for us.

ETA And I realize that 2015 seems like a gazillion loooong years ago, but this felt super good:

                              • Despite my favorite guy losing, I was actually really encouraged by the results last night. Beto never really stood a chance and I think a lot of national press ignored that because he was fun to cover. The fact that he came so close without ever changing his stance on issues in order to seem more moderate is actually a damn miracle and shows that Texas is really more purple than red. A lot of people are predicting that in a few more election cycles, there's a good chance that we will be able to look back at Beto/Cruz 2018 and mark it as the turning point for Texas. And Texas is RICH AF with electoral votes so switching from red to purple is HUGE for the national political landscape. It'll be awesome to see Republicans have to actually hustle to win here. And just to break it down, all the major cities in Texas rode that blue wave!
